Kathleen Hanna, a pioneer to the riot grrrl movement and the subject of IFC’s biopic The Punk Singer, just released “Blueberry Island,” a single from her movie’s soundtrack as well as one half of the Julie Ruin’s upcoming 7″ from Federal Prism. The song may be a bit more docile than Hanna’s other snarling punk efforts, but this gem has all of the same energy, nuance, and skill that we’ve come to expect, coalescing into a dream perfectly suited for any ’90s alternative college radio station.
