Ali Genevich’s solo project, untitled freak, released “insincerity” February 10th via Pleasure Tapes. The final single ahead of Genevich’s debut EP 7 circles, insincerity brings words once held close to the heart into a confession. Speaking about the song, Ali shares that “insincerity is a release of things I never said to someone that I wish I did…I was afraid of feelings getting hurt, so naturally I pushed everything down and decided I didn’t need to say anything. Years later it revealed itself in the mic.”

In “insincerity,” a steady bass line drives the melody and distorted guitars into an emotionally cathartic crescendo. Over the span of four minutes, insincerity’s energy suspends in an open expanse and condenses into an uneasy resolve. Genevich’s repeating hook—“I wish I could go real fast / I wish I could make it last,” adds an additional layer to the track’s brewing tension. Played alongside “birthday” and Genevich’s self-titled single, untitled freak has solidified a distinct sound and emotionally resonant body of work.
