Brooklyn psych-folk outfit Woods recently released their excellent seventh full-length With Light and With Love — their first effort produced in a professional recording studio. The result is a body of work comprised of the surprisingly poppy, yet ultimately satisfying, poolside jams hinted at in previous sunny singles like “Cali in a Cup” and “Be All Be Easy.” Considering their steady stream of output since 2005, it comes as no surprise that they’ve just announced a self-described “companion piece” to the aforementioned LP — a new 7″ single featuring two non-album tracks “Tambourine Light” b/w “Tomorrow’s Only Yesterday.”
“Tambourine Light” is our first taste of the release and retains much of the same sound featured on With Light and With Love. The marriage of acoustic and electric guitars coexists seamlessly over the jangly percussion that backs Jeremy Earl’s unmistakable falsetto. “Another morning, another yesterday / As I look out past the sun,” he repeats before transitioning into a sedated guitar solo. Released just in time for summer, the track marks another solid entry in Woods’ growing song catalogue as they continue to dabble in naturalistic folk-pop.
“Tambourine Light” b/w “Tomorrow’s Only Yesterday” is out July 8 via Captured Tracks/Woodsist.
