Live Show Round Up 3/16 – 3/22

Mon. 3/16:

  • Elsewhere: Gurriers, Native Sun
    • ALT Citizen’s very own Marisa Whitaker sat down and talked with Native Sun back in October. With the release of Concrete Language under their belt, the rock band is taking the stage at Elsewhere opening for Gurriers. Monday night is all about rocking and rolling.
  • Nightclub 101: Good Morning Shepard, My Transparent Eye, Concealer
    • You can’t find Good Morning Shepard’s music on streaming platforms; you’ll have to go to this show pocketing the potential of the unknown, the possibility of the unexpected. The rest of this bill is solid, so I can only predict Good Morning Shepard will hold their own.

Tues. 3/17:

  • Baby’s All Right: Acopia, Purelink
    • Naarm/Melbourne based band Acopia is playing two shows this week in NYC. The band’s lofi, atmospheric electronic music whispers; make sure to listen to the band’s recent LP Blush Response before the show. Falling and Falter are standout tracks.
  • Cassette: untitled freak, Wulfer, Or Best Offer
    • Tuesday is not just any ordinary day, it’s the release show for untitled freak’s debut EP 7 circles. Austere and angsty, Ali Genovich’s project is stripped back guitar music for isolated introspection. Don’t miss this one.

Weds. 3/18:

Thurs. 3/19:

  • Bowery Ballroom: ear, Swords2
    • I don’t have the words to describe how excited I am for this show. ear’s album The Most Dear and The Future is everything to me. It’s minimal and icy; a coolness doused in sweet sentiment. I’ve probably listened to Nerves at least one hundred times this year.
  • Good Room: NIGHTCRWLR, Eartheater (DJ Set), Sam-E, Black Noi$e, Lee Lee, Jessi’s World (Jae of Boy Harsher)
    • Saint Vitus presents ENTER OZ: A nocturnal soirée of live music. Raid your closet, throw on your most elaborate costume, and get ready for some sick dj sets. If you need costume inspo, follow @nasa_nasa_nasa__ on Instagram.
  • Main Drag Music: Rose Paradise, The Wildmans
    • Rose Paradise is playing a single release show for Sweet Devotion, out March 18th. It’s hard to find good country music in New York: Paradise is an exception to this hard and fast rule.

Fri. 3/20:

Sat. 3/21:

  • Knockdown Center: Geordie Greep, Julianna Barwick & Mary Lattimore, Delroy Edwards (live), & Still House Plants
    • Let’s hear it for the Greep. OUTLINE fest is back and this time around, Geordie Greep is headlining. The former black midi member got lots of hype for The New Sound; an album boasting his typical disjointed, avant-style. It’s very black midi sounding to say the least.
  • Baby’s All Right: Gustaf, Dan English, Nine Perfect Lives
    • After a week of opening for Mitski, post punk band Gustaf is playing a free show at Baby’s. In my brain, Gustaf is the fun, witty counterpart to Dry Cleaning. Songs like Book and Best Behavior go hard.
  • Public Records: Tara Clerkin Trio, Starcleaner Reunion
    • Bristol-based avant-pop and electroacoustic group Tara Clerkin Trio are bringing their airy, synth based music to NYC. Tracks like The Turning Ground are a breath of fresh air, curating an unwound and evolved stillness.
  • Madison Square Garden: FKA twigs
    • Thank god FKA twigs got her visa figured out and The Body High Tour made it to New York. Seeing EUSEXUA live will be unforgettable.
  • Stone Circle Theatre: SASAMI, KatzPascale
    • In an interesting pivot, SASAMI turned to pop music in her new album Blood On the Silver Screen. SASAMI’s cited strip mall and gym music as inspirations for the LP, and unsurprisingly, the album is underwhelming. But, don’t let my opinion stop you from seeing SASAMI.
  • Laundromat: Lip Critic, Pop Music Fever Dream
    • With the announcement of their upcoming album Theft World, Lip Critic unveiled “Theft Saga,” a three-show residency presented by Perfectly Imperfect. The first show is this Saturday at Yong Xin Tan Laundromat; an aptly unconventional space for a less than typical band.

Sun. 3/22:
