Live Show Round Up 4/13 – 4/19

Mon. 4/13:

  • Elsewhere: Takaat, Masaaki, Maria Chavez (DJ)

    • Takkat means “noise” in the Tuareg language Tamashek, and that’s exactly what Ahmoudou Madassane, Mikey Coltun, and Souleymane Ibrahim (the rhythm section of Mdou Moctar) are making. The trio’s EP Is Noise, melds guitar music from the Sahel with a DIY punk ethos.

  • Le Poisson Rogue: Tanya Donelly,  Chris Brokaw

    • Tanya Donelly is a 90s music legend. She was a member of the Throwing Muses, co-founded the Breeders with Kim Deal, and left the group to front Belly. Donelly’s been releasing music under her own name since 1997, with her most recent single coming out just a week ago.

Tues. 4/14:

  • Cassette: Swords2, china poet, Ear Training

    • I saw Swords2 open for ear at Bowery Ballroom and it sounded like an emo soundcloud rapper channeling Tommy Fleece and Bassvictim. It was awesome. kidz v. robotsss is a banger.

  • Elsewhere: Holy Fuck, Gus Englehorn

    • Canadian electronica band Holy Fuck released their new album Event Beat at the end of March. The LP scratches an indescribable millennial itch; the group is post punkifying art rock. Make sure to listen to Czar before the show.

  • Nightclub 101: Tiffany Day

    • Tiffany Day’s new album HALO is a hyperpop dreamscape. If you rock with Oklou, Mgna Crrrta, or Ms* Gloom, this show is for you.

  • Radio City Music Hall: Lily Allen

    • It was only a few months ago the internet dissected “vape goddess” Lily Allen’s new album West End Girl and her relationship with David Harbour. In all her years in the music industry, Allen knows how to stay at the center of the drama. If you can’t make Lily Allen’s Radio City show, she is also doing a signing at Rough Trade and a show at Kings Theatre on Wednesday.

Weds. 4/15:

Thurs. 4/16:

  • Baby’s All Right: Field Medic

    • Field Medic’s indie folk is music to play in the woods around a campfire. Or, to experience live at Baby’s All Right. It can’t be that hard to imagine you’re upstate … right?

  • Elsewhere: Getdown Services, Problems

    • Bristol based duo Getdown Services’s new single The Radiator is Viagra Boys and Warmduscher coded. The band’s post punk style is playful, and the two’s British accents somehow make their tracks even catchier.

  • Nightclub 101: Lala Lala, Mother Soki

    • Heaven 1 never came, but Heaven 2 did. Lala Lala—the indie rock project of Lillie West—signed to a larger label, worked with producer Jay Som, and put out a mature synth pop album. Listen to Anywave before the show.

  • Webster Hall: Sir Chloe, Suzy Clue

    • Sir Chloe was at the epicenter of the 2020 bedroom pop craze, and in this new era of her career, she released Swallow The Knife. The LP’s got grit, and is unremorsefully grungey.

Fri. 4/17:

  • Elsewhere: Scarlet Rae, Comet, Theo Bleak

    • Indiehourzz presents Scarlet Rae, Comet, and Theo Bleak at Elsewhere Zone 1. If you haven’t listened to Best Waitress (v1) yet, now is your chance.

  • Nightclub 101: Zoh Amba, Superfan

    • On June 5th, Zoh Amba’s debut album Eyes Full drops; a testament to Zoh’s hometown of Kingsport, Tennessee and the genre blending of indie folk and blues. Amba is spending the summer touring with Courtney Barnett and Folk Bitch Trio, so don’t miss their headlining show in NYC.

  • Irving Plaza: Quarters, Malice K, Nautics

    • Quarters, formerly known as Quarters of Change, is the type of alt rock that’s easy to like. The band’s new album I HOPE THIS ISN’T THE END OF THE WORLD is solid. It’s slightly generic, but consumable for a wide variety of audiences.

Sat. 4/18:

  • Rockefeller Plaza: iNDIEPLAZA

    • It’s record store day on Saturday! To celebrate this special day, Rough Trade is putting on a free show in Rockefeller Plaza. Performances will be by Hotline TNT, Winter, Momma, Friko, Nuovo Testamento, Weird Nightmare, and DJ sets are by Soul in the Horn and Saint Virgil. Wake up early because sets start at noon.

Sun. 4/19:

  • Brooklyn Paramount: Waxahatchee, MJ Lenderman

    • Alt country’s dynamic duo is back on tour for a string of shows. Summer’s around the corner, so it’s almost back porch, beer sipping, MJ Lenderman hours.
