Live Show Round Up 6/22 – 6/28

Mon. 6/22:

Tues. 6/23:

  • Madison Square Garden: Bleachers, Wednesday

    • On the New York stop of The Bleachers’ “Bleachers Forever” world tour, Wednesday is opening. I fell into the Wednesday-verse back when I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone came out in 2020. Six years later, the band is playing MSG. It’s blowing my mind.

  • The Sultan Room Rooftop: Croaker, Venetian Blinds, Public Circuit (DJ), Secret Guest

    • Croaker recently dropped two singles: “Easy” and “Keep that in Mind.” In a departure from the band’s signature dark wave sound, Croaker’s new music is relaxed; incorporating acoustic guitar riffs and brit-poppy melodies. I’d go ahead and say the band was influenced by Fontaines D.C.’s Romance.

  • TV EYE: Amiture, Ben Scott, Ryley Walker, Epoxy, Different Plants, Torture Methods (DJ)

    • I’m not totally sure if Amiture or Amiture Music is headlining this show (same artist, separate projects). If Amiture is playing, expect 80s inspired synth heavy beats. On the other hand, if Amiture Music is playing, prepare yourself for dissonant 90s inspired rock.

  • Webster Hall: of Montreal, Cormae, La Banda Chuska

    • of Montreal’s Kevin Barnes released his twentieth LP, aethermead, two weeks ago. Following a break up with a long-term partner and move from Vermont to Brooklyn, aethermead holds that classic 2000s era of Montreal sound. The Williamsburg millennials are going to love this gig.

Weds. 6/24:

  • Central Park SummerStage: Black Country, New Road, Horsegirl, Sharp Pins

    • All the alt kids will flock to SummerStage for this free show (myself included). A chance to see BCNR, Horsegirl, and Sharp Pins for free??? Take it.

  • The Rooftop at Pier 17: The Breeders, Violet Grohl

    • Though the iconic Kim Deal’s been focusing on her solo career as of late, The Breeders are heading back on tour. I can’t begin to describe the influence Last Splash has had on my life. Everything changed when I heard “Cannonball.”

  • ErF Gallery: James Ivy, Christopher Emond

    • New York based artist James Ivy is from New Jersey, but has a cph+ vibe. His latest single “Bent,” reminds me of Horse Vision. ErF is a sick venue, so don’t miss this show.

Thurs. 6/25:

  • Ruins at Knockdown Center: Tortoise, L’Rain

    • 90s post rock pioneers Tortoise released their latest album Touch a year ago. Like the rest of the band’s work, Touch is all instrumental and incredibly solid.

  • Nightclub 101: Runnner, Bloomsday

    • LA based indie rock artist Runnner continues his short NYC residency this Thursday at Nightclub 101. Be sure to listen to the artist’s new single “cowboy cologne” before the show.

Fri. 6/26:

  • Baby’s All Right: Deer park, Massi, b7anket, + special guests

    • Silknode, “the place for taste” is launching later this summer. After attending the app’s “blog haus” at Baby’s, sign up for the app’s waitlist. Nina Protocol may be dead, but there is hope. Out of Nina’s ashes, Silknode rises.

  • ErF Gallery: Victoryland, Sex Week, Many Shining Windows, tal castle

  • Le Bain: ideasforconversations, iKeda

    • Club Chess is back. Play some chess, drink an overpriced cocktail, and stare at the city’s skyline from the rooftop all to the analog dance music of ideasforconversations. Prepare to be your most cerebral self.

  • Arlene’s Grocery: Trophy Wife, Demi Ramos, Rutacai, Steph Amoroso

    • Trophy Wife’s second full length album Pathetic drops July 10th. The nugaze band’s latest single Paragraph is distorted and aching, every word of each lyric part of a journey for self-acceptance.

  • Brooklyn Bridge Park: PinkPantheress

    • As part of Adidas’s FIFA World Cup events, PinkPantheress is playing a free show in Brooklyn Bridge Park. With England’s great odds, you know PinkPantheress will bring explosive energy.

  • Carnegie Hall: The Moldy Peaches

    • The Moldy Peaches don’t play much anymore. I really wish they played more. If you go to the show, The Moldy Peaches are guaranteed to bring some levity to Carnegie Hall’s prestigious stuffiness.

  • Ruins at Knockdown Center: MGMT (DJ set)

    • MGMT is on their DJ arc. Who knows what the two will play in their set, but because of the band’s excellent taste, you know it’s going to be good.

  • Radio City Music Hall: The Human League, Soft Cell, Alison Moyet

    • 80s music is everything. It could be because my parents played The Human League when I was growing up, but Dare! never gets old. Who wants to bet the band will close with “Don’t You Want Me”?
