Mercury Lounge: Suki Waterhouse
-
Suki Waterhouse is an it girl. Although her new album, Loveland, releases July 10th, Waterhouse is playing the album in full at Mercury Lounge Monday night. If you can’t make the “before the release” show, Suki Waterhouse is also doing a signing and performance at Rough Trade on Tuesday.

Nightclub 101: JT Loux, Wulfer, My Body With Blood
-
rocknite.ny returns to Nightclub 101 for their biweekly residency and brings indie artist JT Loux (pronounced Jay Tee Luck) to the stage. While JT Loux’s music is middle of the road, easily consumable indie, Wulfer’s Alex G inspired indie folk is where it’s at. Make sure to listen to Wulfer’s new album I Love My TV before the show.

Tues. 6/30:
-
Music Hall of Williamsburg: Greg Mendez, Scarlet Rae
-
Beauty Land, Greg Mendez’s second album, documents the haunting fluorescence of suburban lights, expanses of artificial strip malls, and the need to escape from the claustrophobia. Recorded directly to tape in Mendez’s makeshift studio in Philly, Beauty Land’s cast of characters are reminiscent of many people we once knew.

-
Nightclub 101: Bellows, D.A. Crimson, Parks Dept.
-
Bellows is playing their album release show for Que Bello at Nightclub 101. With a sound influenced by Sujan Stevens and Jonathan Richman, Bellows’ melodic tracks are the latest triumph for baroque pop.

TV EYE: Makeout Reef, Bleary Eyed, Paper Lady, Warphole
-
To me, Makeout Reef sounds like The Strokes. Do you know what that means? The band is good. Not genre-bending, not unique, but solidly good. Give the band’s new single Poison Tree a listen before the show.

-
People I Love, Heaven Slight, tal castle, and Cicada are bringing a twee school formal to the Stone Circle Theatre. Put on your nicest outfit, ask out a date, pick up a corsage, and get ready for a good time.

-
ALPHAVILLE: many shining windows, Whisper Doll, Wax Girl, Nat Shaheen
-
many shining windows’ latest single mud is a must listen; it’s a perfect harmony of shoegaze and lo-fi 90’s music. I’m going to call it now, these guys are going to be big.

Elsewhere: The Bug Club, Golomb
-
Welsh post-punk duo The Bug Club’s fifth LP Every Single Muscle is righteously fun. With an upbeat UK sound, chugging guitars, and playful lyrics, this show will be a riot. The duo is also doing a signing and performance on Friday at Rough Trade.

Thurs. 7/2:
-
Lincoln Center: St. Vincent with the New York Philharmonic
-
Following the release of LIVE IN LONDON (BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall), St. Vincent is heading on a North American orchestral tour. Teaming up with local orchestras across the country to play her greatest hits, St. Vincent’s first stop is the New York Philharmonic. As a former flutist, I encourage you to snag a ticket to experience the inexplicable magic of a live orchestra.

-
[untitled] rooftop: Porches, Pretty Sick, Mackeeper
-
All you really need is a four track. Porches’ new album MASK is raw and stripped back, recorded in one take on the aforementioned tape machine. The LP will sound even better live, played on a rooftop underneath a summer sunset.
-
Fri. 7/3:
-
Market Hotel: the sound chalk makes, Ayegy, ideasforconversations, bbpue
-
I’m over the term indie sleaze. It’s lazy and doesn’t reflect the direction indietronica is headed. That being said, this bill of amazing twee electronic artists deserve their own distinct genre (tweetronica? Is that a solid qualifier?). Be prepared to dance.

-
TV EYE: Chemical, anastasia coope, FA1TH, special guest
-
Chemical’s new EP my little dogma may be a bar italia reference (real ones know). Though the Philly band is evidently influenced by the cloud rock scene, they bring a fresh approach. my little dogma is slightly more schizophrenic and art rocky than some of its counterparts. Take saturday’s child for example.
