Mon. Sept 22nd:
- TV EYE: Nihilistic Easyrider, On Being an Angel, Dream Fatigue
- Nihilistic Easyrider’s new album DELUXE EDITION is solid 2000s inspired rock. A little emo, a touch of Green Day, DELUXE EDITION could be the soundtrack to an early 2000s romcom.
Tues. Sept 23rd:
- Brooklyn Paramount: Jawbreaker
- Jawbreaker undeniably shaped the 1990s emo and punk scenes. If you haven’t listened to Dear You – please do. Accident Prone is a perfect song. Though Jawbreaker dissolved in 1996, they reunited in 2017 for a series of live shows. Now, they’re playing the Paramount. Lucky us.
Weds. Sept. 24th:
- LPR Presents @Little Field: Shonen Knife w/ The Pack A.D. (Sold Out)
- Japanese pop-punk band Shonen Knife is all bubblegum and innocence. Staying true to their roots, the band is on their “Everyone Happy” tour. Merely listening to songs like Top of the World brings a smile to your face.
- Mercury Lounge: English Teacher
- This winter, I had a short-lived English Teacher phase when I came across their album This Could Be Texas. To date, Albatross is my favorite song off the record. Arty and extremely British, the band brings a more pop oriented angle to the UK’s experimental art rock scene.
- TransPecos: The Dallas Cowboys, Peachole, Different Plants, Jesus Christ II
- The Dallas Cowboys just dropped Here’s my view: suck my fat cloud $O$. Yeah. Come to the show and see what’s up – there will be merch too.
Thurs. Sept 25th:
- Avant Gardner: The Viagra Boys
- viagr aboys dropped in April. The LP blends the Viagra Boy’s classic humorous post punk sound, with more serious, melancholy songs like Medicine for Horses or River King. The Viagra Boys aren’t all fun and games anymore, they have range.
- Kings Theatre: Spiritualized
- Spiritualized is playing Pure Phase in its entirety at Kings Theatre. Front to back. Cover to cover. Every song; starting with Medication and ending with Feel Like Goin’ Home. I wish he decided to play Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space, but that’s beside the point.
- Night Club 101: Golomb, h.pruz, and Autumn Rhythm
- The Beat Goes On, so follow the beat to Night Club 101. Golomb’s indie rock is catchy and distorted. It’s hard not to get Staring stuck in your head.
- The Warsaw: Sextile, Automatic
- Women respond to bass is not just a great song, but a universal truth. Sextile wins on best band name and top electroclash album of 2025. Listen to Sextile’s new album, yes, please before the show.
Fri. Sept 26th:
- White Eagle Hall: An Evening With Geordie Greep
- I didn’t love Geordie Greep’s solo album The New Sound. I’m more of a black midi fan (I know that is a minority opinion). But, this show is for all the diehard Greepers. Hop on NJ Transit to see Mr. Greep live at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City.
Sat. Sept. 27th:
- Brooklyn Bowl: Buzzcocks
- Singles Going Steady is classic. Everybody’s Happy Nowadays, Why Can’t I Touch It, What Do I Get?, the list goes on. The Buzzcocks are still rocking in their mid 60s, so go join them.
- Baby’s All Right: Red Kross, Das Damen
- Red Kross never stops. The staple LA rock band formed in 1978 and has put out music continuously for 46 years. Their new self-titled album sounds as youthful as Born Innocent, melodic and sweet.
- Knockdown Center: feeble little horse, Teethe, Pink Must
- I bought a ticket to this show months ago and now the day is finally arriving. Although feeble little horse teased me with their single This is Real back in March ( I thought a new album was on the way), I have zero problem seeing Girl with Fish live. I love that album.
- Under the K Bridge: CBGB Fest
- Iggy Pop, Jack White, Johnny Marr, Marky Ramone, Murphy’s Law, YHWH Nailgun, The Linda Lindas… this lineup is every dad’s dream. My dad deeply influenced my music taste, so yeah, I’m pretty excited about it too.
- Union Pool: La Securite, Firstsex
- Montreal based band La Securite’s got a francophone vibe. Art punk that’s trés chic. Listen to their new single Ketchup/Detour.
Sun. Sept. 28th:
- Forest Hills: All Things Go Day 3
- I’m no critic, but All Things Go’s best line up is on Sunday: Clairo, The Marias, The Last Dinner Party, Paris Paloma, Blondshell, G Flip, Joy Oldokun, Hey, Nothing. Festival season is coming to a close, soak in its last moments at All Things Go.
