Mon. 5/11:
-
Elsewhere: Touching Ice, Peace Thru Strength, Windy 500
-
LA based electro-industrial trio Touching Ice is kicking off Elsewhere’s summer series of rooftop shows. Before the show make sure to RSVP to reserve a spot and listen to Touching Ice’s album I Just Remembered Everything Always Worked Out For Me. If you like Bassvictim or Frost Children, you’ll love what Touching Ice is putting down.
-
-
Elsewhere: Silkworm, Come
-
Forming in Missoula, Montana in the 1980s, indie rock band Silkworm is back on tour. If there is anything you need to know about me, it’s that I love my Rat pedal. So, by my own definition, Silkworm gets it. Listen to Couldn’t You Wait and hear that beautiful, gritty, grating distortion.

Tues. 5/12:
-
Union Pool: Wetsuit, gobbinjr, Anna Altman, Verdigirls
-
Substitute Scene Records, a Brooklyn based record label focused on representing queer and female artists, is bringing a showcase to Union Pool Tuesday night. Off this bill, Anna Altman’s track Figure 8 is a standout. Kim Deal-esque, Altman’s indie rock has a 90s feel, both nostalgic and sweet.
-
Weds. 5/13:
-
Gold Sounds: Flowers for the Dead, Bedridden, Wiring, Cyanotype
-
A little shoegaze, a touch of indie rock, this bill’s got it all. cyanotype is fresh on the scene and their song xugarglide gives mellowed out Her New Knife. It’s perfect.
-
-
Webster Hall: james K, Oli XL, Lolina, Deer Park and Ivy Knight
-
This bill is for those who appreciate ambience and haze. james k, the project of NYC artist and producer Jamie Krasner, is a master of creating ambient pop music fit for any dreamscape. Deer Park and Ivy Knight, two of my favorite artists, also bring a relaxed, foggy approach in Terra Infirma, and Knight’s solo work like Feet of Mud.
-
Thurs. 5/14:
-
Baby’s All Right: Sluice, Hiding Places
-
Cassette: Wendy Eisenberg, Grumpy, and Special Guest. Beach Fossils and Winter DJ sets
-
Samantha Kattan’s campaign is throwing the democratic socialist running to represent District 37 in the New York State Legislature a fundraiser at Cassette. With sets by Wendy Eisenberg and Grumpy, there is no better way to get political.
-
-
Union Pool: Sabrina Song, Alana Markel, Screenager
-
Sabrina Song’s new EP Big Trick is heartfelt and sincere. Weaving narrative lyrics into her indie pop, Song crafts an impenetrable world in Big Trick.
-
-
Sugar Hill Supper Club: Ruby Joan, Veronica, Sledding
-
All my friends are playing Sugar Hill. In a room that looks straight out of David Lynch’s imagination, hear Veronica’s grungey pop rock and Sledding’s cloud rock. It will be a night to remember.
-
Fri. 5/15:
-
Brooklyn Paramount: Hum, Nothing, Chapterhouse, Lovesliecrushing, Bleary Eyed, Manslaughter777
-
Slide Away Fest Day 1. Real shoegazers know the significance of Hum playing live. It’s the 30th anniversary of You’d Prefer An Astronaut; an album that inspired the 2000s emo scene (and me). I am counting down the minutes to hear Stars played live.
-
-
Union Pool: ARMLOCK, shower curtain
-
Armlock, the project of Australians Simon Lam and Hamish Mitchell’s medley of indie rock and electronics is gentle, a distinct body of work inspired by Alex G. Supporting the band is shower curtain, one of NYC’s best shoegaze bands.
-
-
Webster Hall: Melody’s Echo Chamber
-
-
Melody’s Echo Chamber’s ethereal nature touches each moment of her new album Unclouded. Glinting and cinematic, listening to Unclouded is an easy fix to romanticize your life. Eyes Closed is a psych-rock masterpiece.
-
Sat. 5/16:
-
99 Scott: Mark William Lewis, Oxis, Ovrkast
-
Pigeons and Planes presents Mark William Lewis, Oxis, and Ovrkast at 99 Scott as part of the Sounds that Move festival. I view Mark William Lewis as the British Deer Park, the two’s work sound vaguely similar. Oxis though, her track Long Sardine clearly inspired ear and other related projects. Make sure to check out Oxis’s new single Grey Mullet/Scup.
-
-
Brooklyn Paramount: Hum, Nothing, Chapterhouse, Swirlies, She’s Green. Warmachine
-
Slide Away Fest Day 2. This bill is the same as Friday’s, but slightly different because Swirlies are playing. I cannot emphasize enough how important Blonder Tongue Audio Baton is to me, it’s one of my favorite albums of all time. Pancake never gets old.
-
-
Nightclub 101: Nara’s Room, Wulfer, Raavo
-
Nara’s Room’s new single Lizzie mcguire aches of youth, documenting the nostalgia attached to a favorite TV show. Melding dream pop and shoegaze, Nara’s Room creates a song seemingly happy, with undertones of remorse.
-
- Baby’s All Right: Komodos, Boxxer, LAVELLES, Pretty Girls Watching
- ALT Citizen and 1-800-girlfriend bring an unforgettable bill to Baby Dance. In typical ALT fashion, the night will go until the sun rises. Before the show, listen to Komodos recent single 17.
-
SILO: Ivri, Trophy Wife, Smush
-
For those who don’t want to go to Slide Away, IndieHourzzz presents their own shoegaze bill at SILO as part of Sounds that Move. Ivri, Trophy Wife, and Smush will all draw you into a distorted, reverbed realm.
-
-
Warsaw: Cut Worms
-
Produced by Jeff Tweedy, Cut Worms recent album Transmitter maintains Max Clarke’s sun-dappled, light breeze in the park, type of sound. The album itself is warm, basking in a golden sunset.
-
Sun. 5/17:
-
Purgatory: Don’t Tell Iris, Babe City, Whiskey Ginger, and Retail Drugs
-
Head to Purgatory Sunday night to rock out. This bill does not fit a singular genre descriptor, Don’t Tell Iris’s alt rock tells stories of women historically confined in asylums, Babe City is all about glossy, indie pop, and Retail Drugs’s catalog is known to genre bend. Sunday will be eclectic, and more notably, an experience.
