Everyone’s favorite Brooklyn venue, Baby’s All Right, has been hosting a weekly series – BABY DANCE – every Saturday for some good time now. It’s always free(!!!), runs late, and even if you aren’t going for the music, it’s a damn good late-Saturday-night hang. A slew of agencies, labels, and local popular people have taken charge of curating each week’s bills, with each one hosting a (typically) mixed roster of bands, DJs, and “personalities.”
This Saturday, May 16, Alt Citizen is presenting the night, which was curated and booked by 1-800-girlfriend (the show promotion co. run by, me, AC Associate Editor Marisa Whitaker) and Enter Media II (owner Joey Asaro also manages Komodos & Pisha).
This show was a long time in the works, and we’re stoked to finally make it happen. The night will include performances by Komodos (a local scene fav; this is also the band’s single release show), Boxxer (who hasn’t played in ages; AC <3’s ’em), LAVELLES (coming up to NYC from LA for the weekend; sick rock band), and Pretty Girls Watching (these young, local kids are so cool and so good).
The long night in the showroom will close with a DJ set by another AC favorite, Computerwife, who headlined one of our AC15 shows. And in the bar room on decks, you can enjoy some spins by Handsome Rob (resident Baby’s DJ), Gem Spa (who you can often see scratching vinyl at 151), and torture@cian.com (the bestfriend duo that is Torture of Torture & The Desert Spiders and AC’s #1 soundguy Cian).
And what are “personalities,” you ask? It’s synonymous with cool kid, popular kid, clout-possessor, host, etc. This week’s hosts are Epel (rad fashion designer; friend of Joey), Handsome Rob (yes, there are two different Handsome Robs on this bill; this one is a poet), Nasa (queen AC, ofc), and Kieran Press Reynolds (the best columnist at Pitchfork; a hyper-pop obsessed wordsmith; you must check out their legendary piece on Bassvictim).
Quite a stacked bill! Shoutout 1800gf and E2! AC does it again! Don’t be a BABY and come DANCE! Saturday!
