Every season boasts its own set of unique characteristics. Autumn’s warm-hued beauty is bountiful and festive. Winter brings snowfall and holidays and nostalgia. Spring offers birds and bees and chances of romance. Summer is a celebration. The days are hot, skin is freckled and that certain youthful feeling radiates from within. Even if the days of summer-actually-being-summer are long gone, a sense of freedom and excitement comes to life in July and August — albeit for weekends at a time. If only we could bottle up this sweet summer magic and inhale it on bitter nights in the middle of March. All would be well.
As a toast to these sunshine-y vibes, and summer’s end, we curated a mixtape of (mostly) new music worth dancing to, chilling to, partying to, making out to, etc. Highlights include: Brooklyn-based AYER’s latest offering “Fight Your Fire,” a smooth electronic-meets-R&B cut produced by ARNOLD from M|O|D and Bel Heir. In addition, California newcomer Ryn Weaver brings sweeping sounds and pristine pop vocals to the table on “Promises” (Weaver also talks about being “broke as f*ck” in a recent interview, which is worth more than a look). Then, La+ch’s “You Are My Summer” (feat. Coleman Hell and Jayme) packs in all-summer-everything via lighthearted lyrics like: “Makes me think of grapefruit juice, trampoline and ice cream soup, spitting watermelon seeds, grass stains on my favorite jeans…”
There’s still a few weeks left of it all so get free, have fun and listen below.
