Mortality’s a given: Working Men’s Club’s ‘John Cooper Clark’

It’s Friday y’all. We can’t really dance with each other, but this Working Men’s Club vid for “John Cooper Clarke” off their new record reminds us of when we could — and did… a lot. You see people through the decades all wiggling around, sweating, just ’cause it’s fun.

The song itself, named for the infamous “punk poet” of the 1970’s, makes you want to do that, too. It’s difficult to pinpoint which time it reminds you of, which is typical of WMC. They’ve got more of a general nostalgia. Funk in the bassline, 80s synths, modern guitar leads, a drum machine from the 90s.

It all boils down to the fact that things change, but we as humans never really will;

“We dance and we smile

We laugh and we cry

We play and we fight

We live and we die.”

So just dance, right?
