Photographer/finance bro/AC columnist/friend to many Marc Giuffre has provided our ears with an inside listen into his Long-Island-emo-bred music taste. If you follow anyone in the local indie music scene or adjacent on Instagram, you’ve likely seen a Marc Giraffe photograph. Perhaps the one of Doecaine reading on the subway, that one of Cab Ellis’ Connor Abeles on Bowery Ballroom show flyers splattered on the wheatpaste walls around the EV, or those at Baby’s backstage of The Dare or the PI.FYI squad spinning decks. The slightly hyperpigmented flicks, more often than not, capturing a blink-of-an-eye candidness, I can point out from a mile away. You’ll see him wearing his suit, still on from his corporate-ahh “real” job, at a show at 101, up in the front, snapping shots with a way-too-bright flash on his tiny, yet mighty handheld film Yashica T4.
I can’t go on too much about Marc, as we’re friends and I just can’t give him all the credit he deserves, but I will say, he cares enough to show up and document the cool shit and people and happenings around him. To see his pics, check out his monthly AC column, named ala LCD, Where Are Your Friends Tonight?, and follow him on Instagram. You’ll likely be able to find them in a big, fat, cool coffee table book one day anyway … Until then, tune into his string of actually really nice songs. Marc G’s here to smash the stigma that finance bros have no music taste.
