London-based singer Oscar Browne has released his latest single “Cut Me Off”, the follow up to his 2022 debut, “Never Quite Right”. “Cut Me Off” marries sadness and frustration — evident in Browne’s vocal performance and lyrics

The strumming of the guitar in the intro paired with I know you think I don’t care, sets a somber tone that reverberates through the single as Browne details the story of things that were never said. After singing about his feelings of loneliness, the violin cuts through to move the song into a more frustrating direction. Browne goes onto sing You said, I lied to you. I don’t think that’s quite the truth.” The emotional tension building in equal measure to the instrumentation

The theme of being alone begins to take a back seat as the frustration builds and morphs into the chant “You don’t have to cut me off all of the time, You don’t have to cut me off”.The violin swells as Browne cuts in to lament his loneliness, but this time it’s different. The flood gates have opened and the frustration is evident as the vocals crescendo. He ends the song singing, “Can we overcome this in time? Must I wait so long, I hope you realize I didn’t want it to end” The last line of the song is heavy with both longing and acceptance.

Of the single, Brown shared: “When someone close to you begins to accuse you of lying and suddenly cuts you out, without giving you any chance to defend/explain yourself. The song focuses on that frustration and loneliness. The lyrics are all the things I wanted to say but were never heard.”

“Cut Me Off” embodies the sadness and exasperation of not being heard, while also unveiling the loneliness felt in the aftermath with cutting lyrics and a powerful delivery. “Cut Me Off’ is released via So Young Records and produced by Ali Chant.
