So, this was different. We frequent all of the usual NYC haunts for music, from dive bar to stadium, but rarely do we get the chance to jump aboard a bona fide rock-n-roll booze cruise — and since High Waisted, the lo-fi surf rock quartet we chatted up, was headlining the show, we knew we had to check it out.

Sponsored by PBR and a slew of other awesome brands, the show took place on the magnificent SS Jewel, which departed from Skyport Marina with a slew of audiophiles and lushes at around 7pm. When we weren’t busy enjoying the two-hour open bar, there was a ton of up-and-coming local talent to enjoy, including Mainland, Prinze George, and Teen Commandments. The mix of pop, dance, and indie rock was super refreshing — nothing says summer send-off like a variety of good tunes and some free beer.

High Waisted capped off the evening with a stellar performance, of course, and we couldn’t help but hope the crowd could might somehow convince the crew to keep the night going. No such luck, but oh well. Same time, same place next year?
