RIP Magic is back. Today, the London four piece — made up of members Marco Pini, Felix Bayley-Higgins, Beth Boswell-Knight and Pedro Takahashi— released their new single “Screwdark” and announced their signing to section1, the Los Angeles-based sister label to Partisan Records.
In an interview with RIP Magic in February, The Face writer Davy Reed wrote that the London band “have perfected that formula of making indie kids dance.” He’s not wrong. Dance punk to the core, the band’s last single “5 words” was produced by LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy, whose accolades come rarely. RIP Magic’s new single, “Screwdark” maintains a DFA sound, merging a dense, unceasing pulse with the intimacy of a DIY set. The small club nights, word of mouth, and gritty determination that built RIP Magic’s hype is present in every second of “Screwdark.”
