Sedona’s “Missing in Paradise” is a 80’s style dream pop fantasy song a la Love Witch. In fact Sedona herself feels like the real life personification of Elaine from the very same film, minus the murder. Sedona describes herself as a wild and untamed being and “Missing in Paradise” certainly feels just as natural and untouched. It is unapologetically feminine and timeless. Something that feels as at home in 2021 as it would in the 80’s. Sedona has a sweet, breathy soprano and an undeniable presence in her music.
“What wakes up another/ is the sound of a voice inside/ of your heart”. “Missing in Paradise” is undoubtably a love song but also a prayer for compromise, for effort from one partner to another. Love is hardly perfect, just ask Elaine front the Love Witch, it requires work. I’m a sucker for pop songs that hide tough messages like this one, and “Missing in Paradise” is my favorite kind of pop song. Sedona’s music is what’s missing from paradise.
