Soundtracked: Music, News, and More, Week of January 29

HOW MUCH LONGER DO WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR A NEW MY BLOODY VALENTINE ALBUM?! That being said, the things that I was looking forward to being released this week that actually WERE released, are all pretty awesome. As always, click through on the album cover to listen on Spotify.
Listen:
I’ll admit that I’ve never really listened to a whole Tegan and Sara album other than this, though the random songs I heard from friends, I thoroughly enjoyed. Heartthrob is a must-listen in that it sounds like none of their other stuff, and they still manage to make it sound really, really good! That’s talent, people!

Bleeding Rainbow’s Yeah Right starts off really strong. The tense opener “Go Ahead” is captivating enough, but the album somehow muddles off midway. Still worth listening to.
Adam Green and Binki Shapiro’s self-titled is a pretty great 60s throwback. It’s nice to hear Binki Shapiro’s voice at full strength, unlike during her time in Little Joy (whose self-titled album you should listen to if you’ve never listened to Binki before).

Watch:

I did not enjoy listening to Ra Ra Riot’s latest album as much as I expected to. This video is pretty cool though. Who doesn’t love disco balls and found footage music videos?

Gothamist has a list of the Best Local Bands to Watch in 2013. Parquet Courts, which I’ve definitely mentioned before, are on it. If you haven’t listened to Light Up Gold yet, do it now!

I just saw Angel Haze open for Cat Power Tuesday and she was great! MTV Hive interviews her about that here.

The Man in Black is getting his own stamp!

Random Nostalgia:

This song used to get me pumped to give my dad the old “I’m on my period” excuse and ditch school. (Sorry, Dad!)
