Soundtracked: Music, News and More Week of February 26

So does the last week of the month just coincide with music releases ending with a whimper? Or was I just being extra picky this week? Regardless, Bowie has blessed us with the ability to stream his album The Next Day which is my top pick because it’s David Bowie. Go stream it on iTunes now. As for the rest of the week’s releases, go check ‘em out on Spotify via the album cover.
Listen:
Unsurprisingly, Johnny Marr’s The Messenger was one of my favorite albums this week. It’s hooky, it’s catchy and Marr’s signature guitar sound is in top form.

Golden Grrrls’ S/T album displays a band that’s a perfect blend of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart sincerity and Yuck’s overt homage to the alt bands of the ’90s. I really loved “Paul Simon” and “Take Your Time.”

Azealia Banks released a cover of The Strokes’ “Barely Legal” and shows off her vocal skills. I can dig it, and I am a lover of the original version.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ new song “Sacrilege” is EPIC. Seriously can’t think of a better definition for it.

If you want to hear me, yes me, make a fool of myself on WNYC’S Soundcheck listen to their episode that aired this week. How did I make a fool of myself? The show was a music trivia quiz and I was asked two questions about music’s biggest money makers of 2012 and got only one of them right! So basically I don’t know shit about music and shouldn’t be allowed to write for any sort of magazine. Oops!

Watch:

Caitlin Rose does karaoke, gets a DUI. Typical night!

Speaking of The Strokes, remember when they played Family Feud versus Guided By Voices and it was adorable?
