Today, Sunflower Bean’s Nick Kivlen made his solo debut with “Starlight,” the first single from his upcoming album Addicted to Sunset, out July 7.
“Starlight” just might be this summer’s anthem. Home-recorded and entirely self-performed, Kivlen’s single carries a relaxed, sun-drenched sound. With lyrics reflecting, as Kivlen puts it, “the perspective I had when I was 20—the possibilities of the future, the yearning for a better world, and the fallout from chasing your dreams,” “Starlight” repeats the phrase “when I find you” throughout the song. Kivlen is looking for something, and since the beginning of his search—whether for love or fulfillment—Kivlen’s reality has shifted. Between moving to LA from NYC and launching his solo psychedelic folk-rock project, change is already coursing through Nick Kivlen’s life.
