This Wednesday, Superfan, the project of multi-instrumentalist Kali Priya Flanagan, released his latest single “In The Gold Room” and announced his upcoming album My Piledriver Heart, out October 16th on AD93. Paired with the release is a live version of “In The Gold Room” filmed by Garrett Winston inside the Agger Fish Building at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Like all Superfan performances, within the interior of the dark and desolate warehouse, Flanagan brings an intimate and undeniable light.
Dubbing his sound as “acousticello,” Flanagan and collaborator cellist Omeed Almass’s noisy tracks off My Piledriver Heart explore heartbreak, independence, and a forlorn, bittersweet sadness. In comparison to Flanagan’s debut Tow Truck Jesus, Kali said his new album is “about being (myself) versus becoming myself.” Leaving behind L.A. and his prior indie pop project “KALI,” My Piledriver Heart,” as Flanagan describes it, “centers around acknowledgment of the ebbs and flows in life and love from a place of comfort within the self.” My Piledriver Heart is an answer to the journey of self-discovery, and more than anything, it is a vestige of truth.
