Superfan Shares New Single “Ode to Hum (I want it to rise)

Today, Superfan, the project of Kali Priya Flanagan, releases “Ode to Hum (I want it to rise),” the second single from his forthcoming album My Piledriver Heart, out October 16 via AD 93.

An optimistic sentiment fuels Flanagan’s “Ode to Hum (I want it to rise).” The track’s opening guitar riff crystallizes a quiet craving to become—or, in Flanagan’s own words, “to rise.” Collaborator cellist Omeed Almassi’s earnest string arrangements weave through Flanagan’s rich guitar tones, creating a sense of upward movement that distills opportunity. Unlike Superfan’s more melancholic work, “Ode to Hum (I want it to rise)” finds hope not as an afterthought, but as its driving force.

My Piledriver Heart marks Flanagan’s first release outside of the record deal he signed at fourteen. Expansive and experimental, the album inhabits an indie-rock sound Flanagan has self-described as “acousticello”—a raw, singular blend of acoustic instrumentation and cello. Make sure to preserve My Piledriver Heart, arriving October 16.
