I remember feeling like my ribs were gonna bust in the best way possible at the first Twin Peaks show I ever went to. Slammed up against the lip of the stage, almost suspended mid-air by the moshing — I was hooked. As the band has graduated to larger stages, I’m stoked to say that that same energy remains intact. With the floor boards flexing underneath at Webster Hall the moment “What Up Dawg” started playing (a personal favorite from their live album), I knew we were in for a special night. Packed to the brim, Webster Hall was the perfect space to host the band — feeling strangely homey for a Manhattan venue and large enough to be impactful without being impersonal. On slower tunes, particularly when they brought out the disco ball, it felt like you were just hanging out with your best friends despite the massive spectacle of it all. Songs that may not have resonated as strongly on the new album as past singles had new life breathed into them on stage. “Oh Mama” and “Dance Through It” have become new classics. The band is also a perfect example of how essential and integral each member and their chemistry is to a group’s success — each member taking the lead on different songs or grounding them musically or rhythmically. They’re the most endearing bunch of dudes that some how can get crowd surfing going even on their most tame moments. Check out photos from the memorable night below.
