untitled freak’s debut EP, 7 Circles, is releasing March 13, 2026 via Pleasure Tapes. Alongside the announcement, Ali Genevich shared “birthday,” the second single from the upcoming record. Austere and raw, “birthday” moves continuously through one guitar riff. Stripped back guitars harmonize, tapping into the sentimental core of turning a year older. Genevich’s song captures the inherent self-reflection that comes with marking another year in the books.
Although it is just reaching streaming platforms, “birthday” always existed in Genevich’s psyche. Writing “birthday,” Ali shares that “after I made the track and first listened back I realized I had successfully transported myself back in time to when I was 19, when I first started writing music… to me this track is not so different to how I imagine some people experience synesthesia. When I listen to ‘birthday’ I’m somehow back in the kitchen of my first college apartment on Morris street. Maybe the song had always existed and was buried deep inside my head. I don’t remember writing it. I think it already existed somehow.” For the listener, the song feels as natural as its writing process. “birthday” is a song symbolic of the past that moves into the future.
