Sometimes, you share a wall with a fabulous pop star named Annabel Asher, and Annabel Asher really likes to make you help her with her illustrious career. However, this is actually very awesome and cool to me! Annabel gifted me with the privilege of producing her newest music video for her single ‘ZERO’ out today. Directed, shot, and color-graded by Calvin Stark; edited by Erin Hoagg AKA Rare DM; and styled/ set-assisted by Caitie Lautsen, we came together to create a colorful, ridiculous universe draped in vengeance and watermelon juice.
‘ZERO’ tells the tale of an all-too-well-known storyline: you like them, they make you think they like you, and then poof! They’re gone! In the video, Annabel shows us how messy situations like this really are via covering herself (and the crew) in green slime and watermelon chunks. All her ideas, mind you! The wild clothes, incredible shots, and all-out technicolor edit perfectly showcase the demented universe ‘ZERO’ is drawn from.
“I think everyone should have the opportunity to smash a watermelon with a mallet. It feels amazing. I owe every success of this shoot to Calvin for shooting and directing with so much grace, Erin for giving me incredible creative and movement direction and made writhing around in a kitty pool soooo sexy, Gianna for locating the very specific blow-up pump we needed, lugging buckets of water up and down the stairs, basically being my producer and best friend to the stars, and Catie whose insane wardrobe and creativity allowed me to fully embody my vision of this weird candy-coated wasteland.” Annabel told me.
This shoot was a total blast; we all had the best time. It was a gift to be surrounded by such talented friends who came together to make this beautiful, twisted dreamworld a reality. Following today’s release of ‘ZERO,’ Annabel is dropping her debut EP on October, 16th 2026. Tap in early, she’s one you won’t want to miss<3
Special thanks to Calvin Stark, Erin Hoagg, and Caitie Lautsen. Special not thanks to the dweeb who inspired this song.
