English indie band Alt-J recently released the video for “Hunger Of The Pine,” the lead single of their second studio album, This Is All Yours. The video is a weird Hunger Games homage and features a sample of Miley Cyrus saying, “I’m a female rebel” from her song “4×4.” I don’t really ever knowingly listen to Miley and I thought she was saying, “I’m a female rapper.” Which is probably just as improbable as her being a “rebel.” But I’m being a dick and honestly, the sample works really well for the song.
I’m not really that crazy about the videos concept. Like, why is this dude getting shot at, and where the hell are all of these arrows coming from? But whatever, the song is legit. It has a beautiful sort of hectic calm to it: the vocals are trippy and soft, almost making my brain tingle, and the Cyrus sample works to perfection. I’ve listened to it like 15 times now and if I’m being straight with you, the video is starting to grow on me, so maybe forget my criticism and just check out this weird ass video! You won’t regret it.
