“During lockdown, we spent some time trying to find ourselves by making music that captures our friendship and all the things that crack us up,” explains singer/guitarist Camilo Medina. “We got really interested in how other countries interpret American music, which in our minds is the process of imitating and ultimately stumbling into something completely new. ‘Drive’ started out as a demo inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Gypsy.’ As the song evolved, we ended up mixing in influences of nostalgic rock/rap from South America.”
The result is innovative and addictive. “Drive” is a single that immediately gets put on repeat. The changing dynamics and influences are a continued welcome surprise as the track twists and turns along its own journey. The accompanying music video further cements the already intoxicating track firmly in your mind. Directed by Alec Basse, we see the band through the night and the euphoria there is in going out.
Particularly nostalgic for pre-covid recklessness and freedom, “Drive” captures that energy perfectly and is an incredibly exciting direction for what’s to come from the band.
