Don’t watch this because it’s a new music video from Elbow — watch it because of its documentary-like aspect in profiling Dennis and Lois, an aged punk-rock couple who lived through the days of CBGBs, hanging with The Ramones on a first-name basis, “Greenwich Village” in its proper form, and few regrets beyond not giving Andy Warhol a lift when he was just, you know, standing there with his thumb out. Sometimes it’s hard to believe there’ll ever be a day in like, 2046, you know? When a few of us might qualify as war-scarred lifers who’ve lived to tell the tales of fancy glass condo proliferation, “Brooklyn” the concept, and $8 quinoa chocolate bars. This ain’t Patti Smith’s New York, but until the well of culture really dries up, Alt Citizen remains in the trenches. Tell your grandkids.
Elbow’s The Take Off and Landing of Everything will be released in March.
