You might know John Eatherly best from his time as a part of Public Access TV, but I actually know him best for his work in The Virgins. When I was 14 or so, their single “One Week of Danger” was on constant rotation in my iTunes playlist.
But, as much as I loved that group, and as much as I love Public Access TV for that matter, it seems that Eatherly’s experience was very different from how we may have perceived it to be. As it turns out, rather than a group effort, it would appear that Eatherly was shouldering the brunt of the musical creation and performance this entire time.
Maybe that is why his debut single “All My Love” feels so familiar despite being a very simple and stripped down version his previous musical work. An ambient, shoegazey track that is brought to us with a video portraying a man who seems very focused on rollerblading away from his problems. It is great to see Eatherly break free from a past that seemed to be weighing so heavily on him. I will always be a Virgins fan, but I am quite prepared to be an Eatherly fan as well.
