Whether you’ve heard Miguel’s heart-stopping song “Simplethings” ’cause you’re a fan of HBO’s Girls (he wrote it for last season’s soundtrack after Lena Dunham hunted him down) or ’cause you’re a fan of Miguel himself, you’ll be glad to know he just dropped a video for the track.
In general, it’s hard to slap a genre label on Miguel because he keeps switching things up. Just when you think he’s an R&B phenomenon through and through (see “Adorn”) he strays a bit and paints a grittier, heavier soundscape (see “Do You?”). He chose the latter route for “Simplethings” —a song that packs a slow-burning yet hurts-so-good punch. I mean, just listen to that guitar. And the video’s no slouch either. In short, it’s filmed in pristine black-and-white and it’s beautiful. Also, there are wolves.
Miguel just wants a free spirit with a wild heart (you know, the simple things) and this video captures that sentiment flawlessly. Watch below.
