Edward Fortyhands, humping anything not nailed down, and smoking till you pass out are just a few of the charming tropes that make the divey basement party (freshmen year, anyone?) really come alive in PUP’s new video for “Lionheart,” a single off their upcoming self-titled debut.
The track itself is straight forward, feel-good punk, which I’m sure was a direct influence on the time-lapsed kegger that serves as the video’s focus. I mean, what’s better than pounding drums, distortion, and screaming gang vocal choruses to get people shotgunning beers and making out for hours? While “Lionheart” obviously embodies the youthful recklessness the video portrays, it’s more than just another ambiguous fuck you to the world — it wants you to revel in the moment, because goddamn you’ve got some fire in your veins, and it’d be a damn shame to keep it all inside.
Sing some ba-da-bas and check out the party’s big, debaucherous ending below.
PUP’s self-titled debut is out on SideOneDummy April 8.
