I’ve been convinced ever since the time of its release that Sia’s “Chandelier” would be one of the hits of the summer. While it hasn’t quite happened yet, the video for the song, which was released this week, already has over a million views. The video is a perfect storm of great song, unique vision, and synergy. The Sia/Daniel Askill directed video features Maddie Ziegler, who is apparently the child star of Lifetime’s “Dance Moms” in the roll of Sia (compare her wig game to this picture of the artist). While having an apparent child celebrity in your video might be enough to sell the video on its own, it’s really Maddie’s ferocious dancing that makes it such a standout video. Her facial expressions alone make it worth a watch. The setting and direction also gives her an aura not only of Sia, but of a young Natalie Portman in Léon. For a pretty simple video, there is a lot of meta packed in. Check it out below.
Sia’s album, 1000 Forms of Fear is expected out this summer.
