A train rushes by, heading out of town. Not downtown, not uptown – out of town.
Out of the city, into the country, into the dreamy electro-pop world of Brooklyn duo, Tomboy.
The video is only their second, but they sure as hell fooled me. The breathtaking cinematography, the effortless coo seeping out of Sarah Aument’s mouth, and the utterly tasty beat produced with partner William Shore is a spot-on recipe for success.
The rippling sound of the synthesizer is consistently mimicked by natural movement throughout, creating an intoxicating dichotomy of musicality and visual imagery – long grass blowing in the wind, sands pulsing, water droplets bouncing on the lake surface – it’s quite simply, beautiful.
The story they tell is raw: “I don’t see what you are to me, but I can’t stop. I, I love it too much.” And the way they tell it is no different. Both Aument and Shore are completely covered in sand and/or water at one point or another. And when I say covered, I mean water-up-the-nose, sand-in-the-mouth kind of covered. You better believe there were no green screens involved in this production.
The video, if nothing else, is a clear picture of Tomboy’s unique talent. A killer beat, flawless vocals, and an exotic visual story … A+ work, kids. Can’t wait for more.
