Mississippi emcee Justin Scott, a.k.a. Big K.R.I.T., has had a productive year so far. Earlier in the year he gave us a whole week of new (and excellent) music during his “Week of K.R.I.T.” (which we covered at least partially here). To celebrate reaching 500,000 followers on Twitter this last week, K.R.I.T. released “Mt. Olympus,” a new track from his upcoming and awesomely named sophomore album Cadillactica, expected out this fall on Def Jam.

Considering the different ways that Big K.R.I.T. has come at the genre in recent years, it’s almost relieving to hear him speak his mind in earnest on “Mt. Olympus.” There has always been a very prominent place in his music regarding the disconnect between being a true artist and chasing a hit or a platinum album. On “Mt. Olympus,” it sounds like he’s finally fed up with dealing with A & R and trying to break through. Given the amount of talent Scott has, not only as an emcee, but also as a producer (he produced this song, and the same goes for most of his work), it makes sense that he would be frustrated. Scott let’s it all out on “Mt. Olympus.” It’s impressive not only in how caustic and honest it is, but also in his pure technical skill. Please listen below, and try to make it to at least 2:20, where K.R.I.T. really shines.

Ya ho indeed.

Cadillactica will be out in the fall on Def Jam.
