Musings: Wes Anderson Compilation Album

wesanderson201113w There is nothing better than a good Wes Anderson movie. Whether you want a little humor or a little sadness, Anderson always finds a way to satisfy your needs with his quirky humor and beautiful cinematography. That’s why it comes as no surprise that American Laundromat Records are releasing a compilation of songs that can be found in Anderson’s iconic films. The two disc album features twenty four songs covered by today’s best indie acts. Below are some of the songs on the album that will make you dream of dating Max Fisher all while looking like Margot Tenenbaum.

I think one of my all time favorite Wes Anderson scenes is the final scene in Rushmore. There is nothing better than when Max and Rosemary give each other “the look” and share their first and final dance. It’s an all time classic and put Anderson on the map as one of the best new directors of this time. Joy Zipper are also an infectious indie pop duo who put a fun spin on this classic song. matt-pond-these-days-e1386004824686 2. Matt Pond These Days (The Royal Tenenbaums)

The love between Margot and Richie Tenebaum was a real and true thing. Sure, they had to stay secretly in love with each other, but the way he looks at her when she walks off the green line bus just says it all. Matt Pond’s version of this Nico song is heartfelt and beautiful, portraying the strained love felt between these two lost lovers. 8 3. Juliana Hatfield – Needle In The Hay (The Royal Tenenbaums)

The attempted suicide of Richie Tenenbaum was heartbreaking and tragic. The song that was chosen to portray this moment though was absolutely perfect. Juliana Hatfield’s cover of the classic Elliot Smith song is just as haunting and sad, bringing to life the pain and anguish felt by the troubled Tenenbaum. tumblr_kz7bs6GnX71qzpdnho1_1280 4. PHOX – The Way I Feel Inside (The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou)

The death of Ned Plimpton forever changed Steve Zissou. PHOX’s slow indie rock sound perfectly describes the emotions and feelings felt by Zissou and viewers when they had to say goodbye to Zissou’s co-pilot, partner in crime and potential son.

5. Escondido – Strangers (The Darjeeling Limited)

The funeral of the young boy brought these three estranged brothers together. The funeral of their father is what tore them apart. Escondido’s indie rock cover is the perfect song to listen to while praying for the relationship of these three embattled brothers.
