May show forecast

David Lynch roses

It’s the lusty month of May, kids. A lot of good shows, very little time. Shit’s gonna hit the fan at the end of the month with Gov Ball taking over the city, but until then here’s plenty of stuff to keep you busy.

Wednesday, May 1st

EELS — Irving Plaza ($37.50)

Thursday, May 2nd

A Deer A Horse, Atsuko Chiba, The Wants — Berlin

Friday, May 3rd

Santigold — Hammerstein Ballroom ($43+)

37d03d — Pioneer Works ($60-$100)

I’m so torn about this one because it sounds SO cool — curated by Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and Aaron Dessner of The National, 37d03d is a two night residency at Pioneer Works featuring collaborative, spontaneous, participatory work from an artist collective that first met in Berlin in 2016. I feel like this is the kind of shit you see in art school and I’m 100% here for it, but not here for the steep price tag. Then again, art needs to be sustainable so at least this means everyone’s getting paid? I’m not sure what to think, but someone go to this for me please.

Saturday, May 4th

Combo Chimbita, Stuyedeyed, Jafe and The Royals — Elsewhere ($15)

Sunday, May 5th

Johnny Scuotto, Rose Cologne, Heavy Birds, Ryan Laetari — Coney Island Baby

Big Thief (Album release show), Lomelda — Elsewhere (SOLD OUT)

Vampire Weekend — Webster Hall (SOLD OUT)

Titling this SOL Sunday cause Ticketmaster is a scam and resale at such absurd prices is clearly a sign of the end of days. Vampire Weekend is back to give you Lion King soundtrack meets mid-2000s vibes at the newly reopened Webster Hall. It’s the kind of show that maybe you should take your parents who live on the upper west side to — number 1: because there will be bagels, and number 2: because maybe they can actually afford to go. It’s an all day thing so perfectly tame for a family affair.

Monday, May 6th

Adam Melchor, Nick Cianci  — Baby’s All Right ($12)

Wednesday, May 8th

Delicate Steve, Fascinator, The Muckers — Baby’s All Right ($15)

Wallows, Joy Again — Irving Plaza (SOLD OUT)

Thursday, May 9th

Putter, Small Wonder, Sipper — C’mon Everybody ($12)

Ex Hex, Versus, THICK — Elsewhere ($20)

Friday, May 10th

Mattiel — Berlin ($10)

IDLES, Fontaines D.C. — Brooklyn Steel (SOLD OUT)

ESG, Habibi — lpr ($20)

The Drums, Tanukichan — Warsaw ($25)

Saturday, May 11th

Field Medic, Another Michael — Alphaville ($13)

I could see Field Medic every time he’s in town and never get tired of it. I will always have a soft spot for romantic, tongue-in-cheek, folk music and in 2019 he does it the best.

Olivia Neutron-John, 178 Product, True Blue — Elsewhere ($10)

Cindy Cane’s Haunted House — Our Wicked Lady ($10)

Wednesday, May 15th

Royal Trux, Wolf Eyes — Webster Hall ($25)

Thursday, May 16th
