Amsterdam based, Ghanaian multi-instrumentalist and singer songwriter, Nana Adjoa, has released the video for No Room from her debut album Big Dreaming Ants dropping September 24th.
The calm vibe and warm colors presented in the video give way to a refreshing and powerful message communicated through yellow text across the screen. If you don’t look closely you might miss it. The aesthetic reminds me of a Sarah Bahbah portrait and was all knit together quite nicely by the creative director Ruby Asibey.
Asibey says, “The vision was to bring Nana’s duality in culture and music together.”
The theme presented in the video was self identity in which Nana was finding herself while also being nagged by her family to go to college and present herself in the way they deemed appropriate. The set was what appeared to be her family room and was staged in the middle of a beautiful grassy field. The earth tones and the hazy field brought the visuals to a more dreamlike state.
I relate to this video and song on a spiritual level. As I sipped my tea I could count on both hands how many times my family wanted me to be something I wasn’t. This video is everything society needs right now and Nana is handing it to us on an ethereal, self realized platter.
Nana Adjoa’s debut album ‘Big Dreaming Ants’ is out September 24. Keep up with Nana Adjoa on Instagram.
