October 26-30: Siren Sounds presents Independent Venue Week

Art by Connor Mikita

I almost can’t believe I get to writeup… an event?! I’m thrilled.

I’ll be the first one to admit I’ve shied away from livestreams during quarantine — I had doubts that it would live up to the vibrant memories I’d been replaying in my mind. What I’ve come to terms with, though, is that while it will never be the same watching my favorite bands through a screen or a projection, there are innovative ways to make that a new experience verses trying to replicate an old one.

That’s exactly what Siren Sounds has done and for a good cause, too! In partnership with NIVA and Ilegal Mezcal, they will be hosting virtual live events October 26-30 where all the proceeds of funds raised and merch sold will go directly to support the artists and out-of-work venue staff involved. This is where the twist comes in, though. The event will be hosted both online and IRL in part at Trans Pecos where there will be food, drinks, a showcase from photographer Rachel Cabitt, and DJ-ing to accompany the livestream projection. Venues supported include Baby’s All Right, The Broadway, The Sultan Room, Our Wicked Lady, and Purgatory. Bands featured include THICK, Haybaby, Native Sun, Pure Adult, Wiki, Shamir, Gustaf, and more. Tickets are a sliding scale so no matter how much or little you’re able to share right now, you can still be involved in the good times — either at the Trans Pecos patio or at home.
