Wet Leg share “Too Late Now” and “Oh No” to announce their debut record

After releasing two immediately catchy and instantly unforgettable tracks this summer, Wet Leg have finally announced their debut self-titled record out April 22, 2022. Accompanying this announcement is the release of “Too Late Now” and “Oh No”.

“Too Late Now” is accompanied by a video which shows the band in a modern environment for the first time. They even go so far as to employ special effects. Seemingly disoriented by their surroundings, “Too Late Now” could be the first chapter in their breaking amish escapades (they’re not amish, but just watch the previous videos). Their driving bass line still intact, “Too Late Now” is a bit more self-reflective and morose than their previous offerings, but still providing a dance-y release as the song reaches it’s climax. Vocalist Rhian Teasdale also has a stream of consciousness rant while peeling a cucumber which is very cathartic for all parties. Even in the midst of their introspection, the band is still playful, never taking themselves too seriously and all the better for it.

On what inspired “Too Late Now” Rhian shared: It is about sleepwalking into adulthood. I never imagined that my adult life would look the way it does and I guess this song reflects on some of the pressures and pulls of life. Sometimes I get really inside my head and everything can feel very overwhelming. I think this song is about accepting that life can feel a bit shit from time to time. Maybe don’t indulge that thought too much though. Just take some time for yourself. Take a breath. Have a bath. It might make you feel a bit better.

“Oh No” comments on our society’s dependency on the serotonin release from our phones and general detachment and self-obsession that comes from that. It’s a chaotic spiral that we seem unable to break from, but at least Wet Leg make it sound good.

Wet Leg will be taking over New York very shortly with several sold out shows and their Late Night television debut with Seth Meyers. If you were lucky enough to get tickets, enjoy, and if not check their 2022 tour dates below.
