Live Show Round Up 2/2 – 2/8

Monday 2/2:

  • No shows worth noting…

Tuesday 2/3:

  • Nightclub 101: Venus & The Flytraps, Femcel
    • Girls rock the hardest. Venus & The Flytrap’s new album Demonette is bubblegrunge to a tea. Check out Swiss Army Girl if you have a moment, fans of Feeble Little Horse will love this one.
  • Union Pool: The Tubs, Low Healer
    • Another Tuesday, another free show at Union Pool. The Tubs jangle rock is reminiscent of the 90s and I deeply respect that the band named their new album Cotton Crown after a Sonic Youth track.

Wednesday 2/4:

Thursday 2/5:

  • St. John’s Lutheran Church: Porches (solo)
    • 10 years of Pool. To celebrate this anniversary, Baby’s Presents brings Porches to the nave. It will be spiritual.
  • Bar Freda: Lowertown, Her New Knife, Comet, Taraneh
    • GLUE #1. A free show, no DJs, and now, a monthly occurrence. Lucky us. This bill is insane and will also feature poetry readings by Coco Gordon-Moore, Megsuperstarprincess, and Montana James Thoma.
  • Bowery Ballroom: SPRINTS, My Transparent Eye
    • Dublin based noise rock band SPRINTS is making their way to NYC. If you like Amyl and the Sniffers, you’ll love the band’s new album All That is Over. The band’s cover of Deceptacon absolutely rocks.
  • Footlight Presents at the Windjammer: Faculty, No Coincidence, Human Fade, Varnish
    • Emo, rock, and indie? A bill with variety, a bill that’s fun. Shout out to the Windjammer for letting shows like this happen.

Friday 2/6:

  • Elsewhere: Public Circuit, Lathe of Heaven, Phantasia
    • New Wave never died. NYC electronic band Public Circuit is bringing the classic 80s genre back with a modern twist. Listen to the band’s track Samson and pretend you’re the main character of a John Hughes movie.
  • Public Records: Scarlet Rae, Zachshots
    • I had Scarlet Rae’s latest single Best Waitress (v1) on repeat the other week. Rae’s acoustic guitar and vocal harmonies pair to create something truly special. Let’s also give a warm welcome back to Zachshots after their leg of touring with Cash Only in CA!

Saturday 2/7:

  • Baby’s All Right: Um, Jennifer?
    • Elijah Scarpati and Fig Regan met at a party and now make punk tinged-indie rock under the name “Um, Jennifer?,” the two’s “vengeful god.” Stereogum named the duo a band to watch, and trust me, they were right.
  • Elsewhere: Daffo, earth 2 tiffany, Aggie Miller
    • I saw Daffo open up for Wednesday in November and listened to the band’s debut album Where the Earth Bends the second I got home. It’s music meant for a windows down summer drive, air whipping through your hair.
  • Music Hall of Williamsburg: Hatchie, Sedona
    • In 2018, I saw Alvvays, Snail Mail, and Hatchie at the Warsaw. It broke my brain and that night I vowed I’d eventually move to New York. Because of that moment, Hatchie’s EP Sugar & Spice holds a special place in my heart. 7 years later and Hatchie’s just released her new LP Liquorice.
  • The Sultan Room: Ski Team, Tommy Crane’s Dance Music For All Occasions
    • Ski Team, the solo project of Lucie Lozinski, talked to ALT CITIZEN about her debut album Burnout/Boys and is now playing her new LP in NYC live for the first time. Poppy and fun, this show will be a good time.

Sunday 2/8:
