Premiere: Cindy Cane’s Heart Is on Fire

Faster, hotter, stronger.

Cindy Cane’s latest single, “Hearts on Fire,” is an endless dance between the peculiar and the provocative, pulsing with flashy synth sensations. Fueled by a feverish desire for love and bloodlust, the toxic anthem teems with occult themes ciphered throughout metaphors of obsession, power, and a dramatic electronic appetite.

The single is lifted from the upcoming EP Exorcize, set for release this spring. Cindy Cane, the alter ego of Tom Lescovich, described it as “a workout tape for psychopaths.” You can almost picture it, as Lescovich has, in the soundtrack for the ninth season of “American Horror Story: 1984.” Crowds have responded accordingly — electrically — when hearing it, typically early on in Cindy’s live sets. “Everyone is always a hot sweaty mess at the end of it. I think it does its job. It’s a banger!”

Visually, “Hearts On Fire” is drenched in blood-red decadence, with Lescovich’s conviction blasting through the mic. When it comes to songwriting, he prioritizes title, key, and color. “I see songs in colors,” he said. “Most Cindy songs happen to be painted blood red.” In this one, the imagined vampire steps into the light, revealing his true intentions — though even seething bites can’t quench his insatiable hunger. “It’s like…relentlessly hot,” Lescovich said. “Like if Andy Warhol’s ‘Kiss’ (1963) and the movie ‘Mandy’ (2018) had a love child.”

Described by the enigmatic artist as a “goth club slash workout banger perfect for Valentine’s Day,” we have an exclusive listen to “Hearts On Fire” before its Monday release — so go ahead, eat your heart out.
