Zoh Amba Releases New Single “Eyes Full”

Zoh Amba arrived to the scene as an avant-garde saxophonist, and now, in a 180° turn, they have embraced singer-songwriter territory, crafting indie rock infused with the sounds of their Appalachian roots. Today, Zoh Amba released “Eyes Full,” the title track off their debut album out June 5th via Matador Records. The song is a testament to the heart, a yearning inquiry into what fuels love and fulfillment. Throughout “Eyes Full,” Amba’s southern drawl recites lyrics above a chugging acoustic guitar and feedback-laden electric guitar in a persistent hunt for an answer. For Amba, the pursuit for transcendence will never cease.

Growing up in Kingsport, Tennessee, Zoh Amba made it their mission to find an identity outside of their hometown. Leaving for San Francisco at seventeen, and later moving to New York City, Amba had a realization, “When you try to run from something it ends up catching up to you.” This thought was the impetus for “Eyes Full,” an album defining Zoh Amba’s unique sonic footprint— an amalgam of muddy, loose acoustic blues, feedback-drenched electric guitar, and Appalachian folk. In “Eyes Full” Zoh Amba documents where they came from, and where they are headed.
