CMJ Crush: Phony Ppl @ Arlene’s Grocery (10/14)

Watching the Brooklyn based hip-hop collective, Phony Ppl is like being serenaded by a group of teenage superheros. Influenced by The Roots, each member brings a different vibe to their craft fueling a unified assortment of feel-good music. Last night at Arlene’s Grocery the dynamic group jammed to playful funk infused tracks off their latest album, Yesterday’s Tomorrow including the Hey! Arnold inspired, “HelGa.” Defining themselves as a band that “either crash-landed from the past or the future,” Phony Ppl distinguish themselves as a unique and incredibly engaging rock/hip-hop/jazz crew.  On social media Phony Ppl prides themselves in being genre-less but after watching their CMJ set, it looks like they have created their own.

Get to know Phony Ppl with their electro-jazz track, “A Tail of Two Llama’s” below.
