Mamalarky’s first release since their 2020 full length debut: double single “Meadow” & “Moss”

Mamalarky’s self-titled debut out last November was an overwhelming swell of musical tact & dexterity meets playfulness & unbridled joy. It blazed and burned through itself at times and also lulled itself through lingering guitar licks.

This week, they’ve released the first new music since that release. Via Brooklyn’s Fire Talk records, Mamalarky has put out a double single: “Meadow” & “Moss”.

The pair of singles go together perfectly, the two titles even melding into each other like a title of a pastoral poem. Singer and guitarist Livvy Bennett wrote them both outside, something she’d never tried before, while finding support and excitement in both the breadth and minutia of the nature around her. The accompanying videos (directed by the band) are perfect canvases to hold the intention of these songs. “Meadow” offers a sense of humor and color, while “Moss” serves weirdly sensual fisherman-chic as Bennett wades through the water in a silk dress, a fisherman’s vest, and rubber gloves – all the while posing with victorian elegance.

Of the singles and their videos, Bennet says, “Monotony is an illusion, or at least it’s a very tired way to look at things.” says Bennett. “Nature always has something new to offer when we slow down enough to absorb it – isolation made me appreciate and deepen this relationship significantly. I realized I’m never actually alone when I’m out under some trees. Moss offers more of a coming to terms that the surrounding landscape could be my anchor and company for the time whereas Meadow is a spark of excitement at finding a less-traveled path on my daily route that opened out onto a beautiful stream with singing frogs. I wrote both these songs outdoors which I had never tried before. I still go to these spots often and they hold me up!”

These releases come along with a tour announce (finally), a run of dates that includes shows with Slow Pulp as well as an East Coast headline and a New York showcase at Baby’s with their labelmates PACKS & Wombo. Full list of dates below:
